What is a save on TikTok?

On TikTok a save is the “Add to Favorites” bookmark — when a viewer files your video to watch again. A quieter signal than a like, but a strong sign your content was worth keeping.

TikTok calls saves “Favorites.” When someone taps the bookmark icon, your video goes into their Favorites tab so they can return to it. It counts toward engagement just like likes, comments and shares.

Because favoriting takes deliberate effort, it tells the algorithm your video had lasting value — not just a quick laugh. Useful, rewatchable videos rack up saves and tend to get re-tested on bigger audiences.

How to get more saves on TikTok

  • Teach something — recipes, how-tos, tip lists and resource round-ups get favorited.
  • Prompt it: “save this so you don’t lose it.”
  • Keep it dense and rewatchable so it’s worth coming back to.
  • Answer a specific question people search for later.
