View (what counts as one)
Each platform counts a view differently — from an instant play to 30 seconds — so the same content shows very different numbers.
A “view” isn’t universal. TikTok counts one almost instantly, the moment a video starts playing. Instagram Reels also counts on play. YouTube Shorts now counts every play or replay with no minimum watch time.
Regular long-form YouTube still needs about 30 seconds. So a view on TikTok or Shorts is a far lower bar than on long-form YouTube — keep that in mind before comparing raw view counts across platforms.
